Siena ZTL
Parking in Siena
The markets
Siena is an almost entirely pedestrian city. For those arriving by car, the best solution is to use the large paid car parks located right by the walls, such as "Il Campo", "Stazione" or "Santa Caterina" (with a mechanized lift). If you’re looking for free options, you’ll need to move away from the center toward outlying areas served by shuttle buses.
The largest weekly market takes place every Wednesday morning (8:00 - 13:00) in the area of the Medici Fortress and the Lizza gardens: it’s the perfect spot for clothing and leather goods. For local flavors, don’t miss the “short supply chain” farmers’ market held regularly on Viale Maccari, where you can buy cheese, cured meats and honey directly from the farmers.
Siena’s historic center is one of the largest ZTLs in Europe and is monitored by cameras active 24 hours a day. Access is allowed only to residents and authorized vehicles

Bicycle rental
Renting a scooter or an e-bike is the most fun way to explore not only Siena, but also nearby areas like Chianti and the Crete Senesi. There are several rental spots near the station and Fontebranda. Remember that, although nimble, mopeds must still respect the ZTL access gates and park in designated areas.

Plan your visit as best you can by checking museum hours and religious celebrations. Remember that during the Palio days (June and August) many offices, shops and monumental sites drastically change their opening hours. Check here the updated calendar of events and patron saint holidays so you don’t find closed doors.
